Gear Review: Columbia Rapid Descent Zip Hoodie

The Columbia Rapid Descent Zip Hoodie works as a base layer during a snowshoe outing and it works as a moderate-weather pullover (to beat that slight chill in the air). The more pleasing aspect of this item is how Columbia understands constructing apparel for women; it fits me – in more ways than one.

When snowshoeing in reasonably cold temperatures, I used the Zip Hoodie as a base layer. I wore my Columbia Top-O-Graphic II jacket as my main layer. After 30 minutes of snowshoeing at a walking speed, I had to shed the Top-O-Graphic jacket. The Hoodie was just right…although not windproof but able to wick moisture…I felt comfortable.

During the autumn months, I wore the Rapid Descent Hoodie as a pullover. When taking my kids down the block for Halloween, it kept me warm enough to cover an hour’s worth of Trick-or-treating. And, after sipping on some apple cider, I didn’t bother taking it off…it just works…no matter the situation.
