Tubbs Romp to Stomp Shatters Records: Stratton Event Raises Over $80,000 for Susan G. Komen

The ninth annual Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer at Stratton Mountain raised over $80,000 for the VT/NH Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, nearly doubling the amount raised the previous year.

Snowshoers emerged in all shapes and sizes, some even on four legs. The wooded trails were a sea of pink and smiles with a record setting 873 participants – young and old, first timers and veterans, from near and far – Romping through Stratton’s Nordic trails for friends, family and to eliminate breast cancer.

The Tubbs Romp to Stomp Series raised $350,000 nationally this year. The event at Stratton, cheered Series National Events Manager, Wendy Miller, held the record for highest average amount raised per participant in the country.

The event’s top fundraiser, Brenda Estella, single handedly raised $5,930, more than any individual in Romp to Stomp history.

“I am now officially a two year survivor,” Estella replied when asked what her fundraising secret was, “with a great husband and two kids who called everyone they know.”

Estella’s team, Five for the Girls, raised $11,500 in support of their friend. Their incredible sum was just narrowly eclipsed by defending team, P Ruby, who solicited $12,267.87.

Veteran Mary Sanchez celebrated her ninth consecutive year participating in the Romp to Stomp. Sanchez has made the trip from Milford, NH every year since the event’s inception in 2003.

“I enjoy the camaraderie. I make friends every year,” said a rosy cheeked Sanchez. “I made some new friends this year! I never want to miss a year.”

Among those new friends was Lily Sargent. The two year old from Granville, NY attended her first Romp to Stomp in honor of her great grandmother. While she was too tuckered out to show her enthusiasm, her parents assured this would not be her last Romp.

All proceeds benefit the VT NH Affiliate, with 75 percent dedicated to local breast cancer education, treatment and screening programs, the remaining 25 percent supports national research.
