Airlite Inflatable Snowshoe Wins First Place at Arctic Innovation Competition

Snowshoe Magazine would like to congratulate the Airlite Inflatable Snowshoes company and its owner, Rick Stafford, on winning first place at the Arctic Innovation Competition in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The Arctic Innovation Competition was created in 2008 by University of Alaska Professor Dr. Ping Lan. Lan’s areas of specialty include developing methods to stimulate and share innovation and new ideas. The AIC is an extension of Lan’s research and is based on the principles of stimulating innovation in our community and around the world.

“There were 212 entries from Alaska and around the world,” said Stafford. “The Airlite Inflatable Snowshoe company took the $10,000 first prize.”

The Airlite is the world’s first and only full-size inflatable snowshoe that’s extremely tough, lightweight, puncture resistant, and flexible.

“These snowshoes are first and foremost designed as an emergency use item to give a stranded person a better chance of survival and are not intended to replace standard snowshoes in all situations,” explained Stafford.  “They are a repeated use item and tough enough to be a part of almost anyone’s recreational equipment. This product has been tested to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.”
