To help increase your snowshoeing appreciation and provide stability in the process, try using the innovative Mountain Safety Research (MSR) SureLock TR-3 trekking poles. Developed by Cascade Designs of Seattle, the SureLock TR-3 provides several features and improved technology that ensures dependable stability when you need it, regardless of the weather or terrain.

The all-season MSR SureLock TR-3 is a compact, three-section pole built for aggressive backcountry travelers demanding rapid adjustment capability on frequently changing terrain. Though your outing doesn’t have to be extreme, knowing you have the capability to quickly adjust the pole length on-the-fly is reassuring.

MSR SureLock TR-3 Trekking PolesThe patent-pending design combines a positive-locking mechanism that eliminates pole slippage with a glove-friendly, one-hand Trigger Release, hence the TR-3 designation. The three, by the way, indicates the pole’s three section telescoping option. The SureLock technology features a rolling lock pin that interfaces with a non-rotating tri-lobe pole and a hydro-formed sleeve over the trigger mechanism to protect the system from dirt and water. Built with 7000-series aerospace-grade aluminum, the pole sections are formed with unique wall thickness to target durability where it’s needed most. This class of aluminum is the strongest of all alloys.

The all-season, multi-sport MSR SureLock poles also feature comfortable, ergonomic grip handles. In addition, the TR-3 poles are engineered to safely lift MSR Televator snowshoe heel lifts, and those on most telemark and alpine touring bindings, with no awkward bending or squatting on steep slopes. Another really neat feature of this versatile pole is that it can be used to pitch a variety of lightweight MSR tent models. Lightweight compression tips ease impact without over-engineered solutions that limit how or where the poles are used.

The MSR SureLock TR-3 trekking poles are available in two sizes: Standard poles have a range of 105-130 cm (41.3 in. – 51.5 in.); Long poles range from 115-140 cm, (45.2 in. – 55.1 in.). Included are both trekking and snow baskets. The convenience of these poles is not only there versatility but their collapsibility. When fully retracted, the poles measure just 23 inches in length. They are easy to transport and easy to store. All in all, The MSR SureLock TR-3 trekking pole is a handy tool you’ll want with you no matter the snow conditions or terrain you’re challenging.
