Featured Product: Yukon Charlie’s Pro II Series 930 Snowshoes

Yukon Charlies 930 - #1When I first acquired my Yukon Charlie’s Pro II Series 930 snowshoes, I couldn’t wait to try them out. Unfortunately, throughout the Pacific Northwest, snow was in short supply for the majority of this winter.

Nevertheless, I enthusiastically donned the snowshoes in my living room, and tried them out on the shag carpet – much to the chagrin of my significant other. Then, after the snow finally arrived in the Cascade Mountains of Washington, it wasn’t long after that I was able to try out the snowshoes on their intended terrain. As I’d anticipated, I was not disappointed with the performance of the 930s.

The Pro II Series by Yukon Charlie’s is a true performance backcountry snowshoe. Its tech weave decking attached with traction capable molded decking clips, along with the lightest and strongest frame, make the Pro II Yukon Charlie’s premier performing pair of snowshoes.

According to Dan Roy of Yukon Charlie’s, the integrated heel lift and rear heel plate system keeps your heel centered and allows you to quickly alleviate calf strain on steep inclines through the snow.

Yukon Charlies 930 - #2“Adjust the Fast Fit binding to your footwear shape and size – without removing your gloves,” says Roy. “One pull gets you on and off the backcountry snow in your sleek Pro II shoes.”

A pair of these aluminum-framed snowshoes weighs less than five pounds, and are easy to maneuver in powder or soft snow. As Dan Roy mentioned, the bindings are a cinch to cinch-up, especially in cold weather when you want to keep your gloves on while tightening the straps. The release is just as easy to maneuver. The aluminum crampons bite the snow and increase traction while reducing slippage. The 930s can accommodate a user up to 250 lbs., including gear.

Trekking Poles Ease the Hike

In addition to the Pro II Series 930 snowshoes, you’ll want to bring a pair of trekking poles. Yukon Charlie’s advanced aluminum trekking poles include two sets of baskets so you can use them at any time of year, whether you’re hiking through a winter wonderland or heading out for a summer trek.

Yukon Charlies Trekking PolesThe three-piece flip lock adjustment system lets you quickly and easily adjust to the perfect length, while molded rubber grips provide a secure hold. The pole length is adjustable from 25 to 53 inches (65 to 135 cm). Yukon Charlie’s officials suggest that using poles will reduce the level of stress on the knees and increase overall cardiovascular activity as it involves the use of your upper body.

Roy shares that “Customers find our snowshoes appealing for several reasons: A combination of the features, graphics, and price, which translates to overall value. We are focused on the recreational consumers so we do everything we can to incorporate the best features into our snowshoe designs while keeping the price really competitive.” The Pro II Series with poles and storage bag retail for $129.
