Lafitau seems to describe a toe hole set-up similar to that seen here. The main ties (labeled here as ‘b’) and the segment of the master cord reinforced by thick strips of rawhide (labeled here as ‘c’) combine to form the arc. The segment of the crossbar labeled with ‘d’ forms the cord (i.e., a line defined by two points of a curve).
