Gear Review: Keen Ochoco Waterproof Trailrunning Shoe

I’ve tried several trail running shoes that can crossover to snowshoeing and have been overwhelmed with joy at how effective they are. Of course, boots are supposed to do their job…keep your feet warm and what not. It’s the trail running shoe that can make or break your snowshoeing experience. I’m no runner, but the Keen Ochoco trail running shoe makes me want to start a career as a snowshoe running athlete.

With all the recent snow in Denver, I’ve had the unique opportunity of snowshoeing around my neighborhood. I’ve been testing gear like mad. The Ochocos have performed flawlessly. I trekked across miles of snow in the Ochocos, wearing gaiters and other appropriate gear. At one point, I thought my toes were getting cold. I could feel the oncoming effects of being immersed in snow. After a while, all that went away. The Ochocos matched the performance of my trusty Sorel boots – no trail running shoe has equaled this performance. I’m a Keen fan for sure.

Here are the Ochoco’s features:

How It Fits

* Length: Recommended fit is a 1/4-inch to 3/4-inch space between the end of your toes and the end of the shoe. This shoe fits a half-size small for a correctly measured foot. * Midfoot: Wider fit with a lower than average arch. Good fit for medium and wide feet.
