Gear Review: Chaco Men’s Basin Shoe

Designed and built for more than just an active lifestyle, the manufacturer has done its part for the planet’s resources and the environment, by using 25 percent recycled rubber in its construction. That, coupled with the shoe’s substantial “EcoTread” sole, ensures maximum traction even in the worst of conditions.

Since 1989, Chacos has used quality as its watchword in the design and manufacture of its footwear. But it doesn’t end there. The company has studied the dynamics of movement and walking and integrated both into the design of the shoe’s “LUVSEAT” footbed. The end result is not only a comfortable and well supported stride, but also a superb hiking experience.

The Basin is a sporty looking shoe. Although at first glance it resembles a hefty pair of trainers, its design features go much further than that. Its coated PU synthetic and mesh lined uppers allow the shoe to breathe – ideal if your feet sweat a lot – yet remains durable and flexible. Lacing up is straight forward and easy thanks to the external, hard-wearing D-ring system.

The clever addition of loops at the back of the shoe certainly helps with pulling them on. The base of the shoe has a 2mm depth, with a tread which will go anywhere, making the shoe adequate for support and far easier to clean. The Basin’s sole is non-marking, thus helping to eliminate dirty marks on clean floors. The extra thick padding around the collar ensures one snug and comfortable fit.
